Get To Know: Antonio Blakeney

This summer was a busy time for a lot of recruits and Sarasota, Florida native Antonio Blakeney was one of those recruits.  Blakeney a 6'3 guard who played for the E1T1 16U team this summer impressed scouts and coaches with his play "It was good, I had a lot of fun playing up on the 16U team, it was real competitive".  The talented sophomore showed he is defiantly one recruit college coaches from across the country should keep an eye on already receiving high interest from schools like West Virginia, Florida State, South Florida, Miami & LSU to name a few. Antonio preformed well at the Super Soph Camp against the best players in the 2015 class and was also named MVP at the Sunshine Showcase, but he feels he could work on a few things "I need to work on being more vocal and on help side defense".  The shifty guard feels his ability to score and get his teammates involved will help him at the next level.  Blakeney already knows what he is looking for when it comes to his college choice "I'm looking for a Coach that really likes my game, I can get a good education and I can come play early in my career".  Ohio State coaches have just started showing interest in Antonio  "They haven't contacted me yet, I received a letter saying they were interested in me and asked me to fill out a questionnaire".  The summer is not over yet for Blakeney, he plans on attending the USF Elite camp this weekend.  Blakeney has a few years before you will see him in a college uniform but he should be a recruit to remember.

Sitting Down With: Franklin Howard

2015 Team Takeover (AAU) guard Franklin Howard has watched his recruitment blow up in the last few months.  After a impressive summer, schools from across the nation have been in contact with the talented 6'4 175lb prospect.  Howard who played at Gonzaga Prep in Washington DC will transfer to Paul VI in Virginia for his up-coming sophomore season.  I had the pleasure to sit down and ask Franklin a few questions.

 

How was the AAU season this summer?

The summer was great, got alot of exposure plus I got closer with my teammates.  Most importantly I got better on and off the court.

Now that the AAU season is over, do you have any expectations for team & yourself?

With the new school I have high expectations to do what I'm supposed to do on and off the court.  My goals are to win the conference and state titles and to be on the All-Met list.

What is the strongest part of your game?

I just make plays on offense and defense.

What are some things you want to work on?

To not take plays off.

What College or NBA player would you compare your game to?

A little bit of Kevin Durant and Tyreke Evans.

What schools have offered you?  Who is showing interest?

Ohio State, Seton Hall, Miami, Virginia Tech, Georgetown, Florida, South Florida and Villianova have offered and I'm getting interest from Indiana, NC State Rutgers and Kansas.

Ohio State recently offered, how did you find out about the offer?  How do you feel about OSU?

I love Ohio State and how they develop players and win games.  I found out about the offer from my AAU coach.

Any visits lined up?

Not right now but I defiantly will get some in before the year is over.

Catching Up With: Nigel Hayes

When we last talked with 2013 Toledo,Ohio forward Nigel Hayes he said Ohio State had not been in touch recently, that has since changed.  The Buckeyes offered Hayes a scholarship Tuesday "I found out last night, Coach Matta called and told me himself."  The 6'7 Hayes who has a older brother on the OSU football team (Kenny Hayes) could have not been more excited to receive his offer from Coach Matta & staff "It feels real good to get that offer, its a school I have always wanted to go to".  With AAU ball over with many prospects are setting up visits, soon enough Hayes will be one of those recruits " As of now my parents and I are getting visits lined up and planned for the future".  A lot of fans are wondering if the younger Hayes will join his brother as a Buckeye but they might have to wait awhile to find out "I plan on making a decision after I talk with the coaches and visit the schools on my list".
